Many of us carry emotional wounds from childhood—memories, fears, and limiting beliefs that still shape our lives today. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), or tapping, is a powerful tool that can help release those old emotional burdens.
By gently tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on an emotion or memory, EFT helps calm the nervous system, release trapped emotions, and bring a sense of peace. Think of it as emotional acupuncture without needles!
In this guide, we’ll explore:

What is EFT Tapping & How Does It Work?
EFT is based on the idea that emotional distress is stored in the body’s energy system. When you experience trauma (big or small), your body may hold onto the stress. Tapping on specific meridian points (like those used in acupuncture) while acknowledging the emotion can help release it and rewire limiting beliefs.
The Science Behind It
Studies show that EFT reduces stress hormones like cortisol, lowers anxiety, and can even help process trauma more effectively than traditional talk therapy. Some research suggests that EFT works by reprogramming the brain’s response to emotional triggers—helping you feel calmer and more resilient over time.
How EFT Helps Heal Your Inner Child
Many of our current struggles—self-doubt, people-pleasing, fear of rejection—can be traced back to childhood experiences. The little version of you still carries those emotions, waiting for acknowledgment and healing.
EFT helps by:
Releasing painful childhood memories (without re-traumatizing yourself)
Letting go of limiting beliefs like "I'm not good enough" or "I have to be perfect to be loved"
Reconnecting with your inner child and giving them the love & validation they needed
Replacing fear & shame with self-acceptance & love
When you tap, it’s like gently holding your inner child’s hand and saying, "I see you. I hear you. You are safe now."
Step-by-Step EFT Tapping for Inner Child Healing
Step 1: Identify the Emotion or Memory
Think of a childhood event that still holds emotional weight. It could be a time you felt ignored, rejected, abandoned, ashamed, or unworthy. Focus on the feeling it brings up right now (e.g., sadness, fear, resentment).
Step 2: Rate the Intensity (0-10)
On a scale of 0-10, how intense does this feeling feel? This helps track progress as you tap.
Step 3: Create a Setup Statement
A classic EFT phrase is:👉 “Even though I feel [emotion] about [memory], I deeply and completely accept myself.”
For example:✨ “Even though I still feel hurt when I think about being ignored as a child, I deeply love and accept myself.”✨ “Even though I was made to feel unimportant, I choose to love myself now.”
Say this out loud three times while tapping the karate chop point (outer edge of your hand).
Step 4: Tap Through the Main Points
Now, tap gently (5-7 times per point) while repeating a reminder phrase like “this sadness,” “this fear,” or “I still feel unworthy.”
🔹 Top of Head – “This sadness”
🔹 Eyebrow – “Feeling so unworthy”
🔹 Side of Eye – “It still hurts”
🔹 Under Eye – “This childhood wound”
🔹 Under Nose – “I felt abandoned”
🔹 Chin – “I’ve been carrying this”
🔹 Collarbone – “It’s time to release this”
🔹 Under Arm – “I am safe now”
Breathe deeply. Notice if anything shifts—maybe a memory surfaces, or the feeling changes.
Step 5: Tap Again & Introduce Compassion
Repeat another round, but this time, offer kindness to your inner child.
🔹 Eyebrow – “I see that little child in me”
🔹 Side of Eye – “I’m here for them now”
🔹 Under Eye – “It wasn’t their fault”
🔹 Under Nose – “They were just a child”
🔹 Chin – “I send them love”
🔹 Collarbone – “I am worthy of love”
🔹 Under Arm – “I am healing”
Step 6: Check Intensity Again
On a scale of 0-10, how does the emotion feel now? If it’s still high, do another round of tapping. If it has dropped, finish with one last round of self-love affirmations.
✨ “I choose to let this go.”✨ “I am safe.”✨ “I am free to be me.”
Breathe deeply and thank yourself for showing up for your inner child.
